Natural Cures For Plantar Fasciitis Inflammation of the plantar fascia is referred to as “Plantar Fasciitis”. The plantar fascia is the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot. This problem is found in both men and women and can result in severe pain. Further, an individual may find it difficult to walk properly as a result of this condition.
The factors such as foot arch problems, obesity, long distance running and so on may contribute to the development of plantar fasciitis. An individual may use different natural cures for obtaining relief from the problem.
Ice
An individual can massage his/her feet with ice. To use this remedy, a paper cup should be filled with water and kept in a refrigerator. Rolling the frozen cup across the bottom of the foot for a period of 5 to 10 minutes can provide relief. This massage can be performed multiple times on a daily basis. An ice pack can also be applied to obtain effective results.
Feverfew
Feverfew is commonly found in North America, Chile, Europe and the Mediterranean. Feverfew can help in reducing the production of serotonin and prostaglandins. These chemicals regulate muscle contraction and are often responsible for causing migraine headaches. It has been observed that a reduction in prostaglandins resulting from the intake of feverfew may provide relief from the pain and inflammation associated with plantar fasciitis. Feverfew should be used under the supervision of a doctor.
Arnica
Arnica belongs to the sunflower family. Arnica montana is used for medical purposes. It contains helenalin which is anti-inflammatory in nature.
It is interesting to note that this form of arnica is frequently used as a component in the preparation of skin ointments. These ointments can be applied for treating bruises and strains. Direct application of arnica can provide relief from the pain caused by plantar fasciitis.
Papaya
Papaya can help in digesting protein and can be used as a natural cure. The roots, leaves and fruit of the papaya plant contain papain which may help in the treatment of swelling.
Diet
An individual’s diet can play a major role in the treatment. Inflammation can be reduced with the consumption of foods rich in essential fatty acids such as herring, mackerel, salmon and so on. Intake of sardines can also provide the desired results. Sardines contain omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B-12, selenium and vitamin D. These components can cure the inflammation. Appropriate diet is also essential to prevent weight gain.
Exercises
An individual can practice different types of exercises to get relief. The arch of the foot can be stretched for a period of 15 to 20 seconds to obtain relief from the tension and pain.
The standing wall stretch can be used to loosen up calf muscle and achilles tendon. Exercises such as stair stretch and towel stretch can also be performed on a regular basis to get the desired results.
Rest
It is important to note that proper rest can play a critical role in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. An individual is advised to minimize his/her movement to obtain relief from the pain.
