Edema is frequently known as ‘’Fluid Retention’’ or ‘’Dropsy’’. Edema is also spelled as ‘’Oedema’’. Accumulation of watery fluid in the tissues of the body leads to edema. The problem of edema is caused by factors such as skin infection, pregnancy, twisted muscle, medication, liver or kidney disease and heart disorder.
Edema may result in pain, swelling, tightening or inflammation of the affected areas, shortness of breath and so on. Various herbal remedies to treat the problem of edema are covered below. Some of the herbal remedies may provide immediate relief from edema.
Dandelion Root
Consumption of tea prepared by mixing dandelion root in water 2 to 3 times in a day can help in reducing the swelling resulting from edema. Warm dandelion leaves can also be placed on the affected area to obtain the desired results.
Elderberry
Another herbal remedy for edema is elderberry. This herb has anti-inflammatory properties. A syrup can be prepared by steeping dried elderberry flowers in water and consumed (strained) several times in a day to deal with the problem of edema. A mixture of elderberry extract and shatavari seeds can also be directly applied on the affected area to relieve the pain and inflammation resulting from edema.
Olive Oil
Olive oil can be used to cure the problem of edema. Olive oil can be mixed with ginger extract and rubbed on the affected area on a regular basis to obtain relief from edema.
Another option is to massage the affected area with a mixture of olive and peanut oil to obtain the desired results. Virgin olive oil, orange and lemon juice can be mixed with distilled water and consumed on a daily basis to obtain effective results.
Grapesee
The problem of edema can be dealt with the use of grapeseed. Intake of grapeseed extract on a frequent basis can help in improving blood circulation and reducing the swelling. Grapeseed oil can also be directly applied on the affected area to obtain relief from the symptoms of edema. This herb is not recommended for pregnant women.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is another herbal remedy for edema. Application of aloe vera gel multiple times in a day may help in the treatment of various symptoms associated with edema.
A mixture can also be created with the use of aloe vera gel and turmeric and applied on the affected area on a daily basis to reduce the problem of edema. Aloe vera juice can also be consumed to obtain effective results.
Bilberries
Bilberries can be used to deal with the symptoms of edema. Ripe bilberries can be consumed on a regular basis to treat edema. Dried bilberries can be mixed with water to prepare a cup of tea and consumed several times in a day to get relief from the pain resulting from edema.
Chamomile
Chamomile oil can be directly applied on the affected area on a frequent basis to reduce the inflammation and pain resulting from edema. Intake of chamomile in the form of herbal tea can also help in obtaining the desired results.
