Rosewood oil is steam distilled from the wood of the tree. This tree grows in Brazil and is mostly used commercially for the wood! It is unique oil that can be hard to find in therapeutic quality.
The oil is best associated with skin conditions because if its tissue regenerating properties. From wrinkles to blemishes, the oil can be applied NEAT (undiluted). It is also excellent for wound and cut healing and can be found in some excellent ointments.
Because of Rosewood brings emotional stability and empowerment, it is found in many professionally made blends that I use. Some of my favorites include: Acceptance, Clarity, Believe and Valor essential oils. I use all these oils on a daily basis for me and the horses!
What is the Genus Species? Aniba rosaeodora
Why is this information important? It is always a good idea to know your source and the genus species of your essential oil, so you know what you are getting!
For instance, rosewood oil is often times adulterated with Palmarosa essential oil. Too many companies label essential oils generically which means none of us know what they are putting in the oils they sell to us. So always purchase your oil by the common name and the genus species name.
Where is the name derived from? I couldn’t find information on exactly where rosewood got its name. But I am assuming that it is because many believe that the oil smells like a rose!

Why know about this number? ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. It tells you the antioxidant capacity of a food item. Antioxidants have shown to reduce the risk of age related conditions and cancer! This was developed by the USDA researchers. For instance: Spinach = 1,400; Clove = 1,078,700. Wow! The number for clove is NOT a typo!

Did you know that the French have used so much Rosewood for furniture, flooring, guitars and oils, that the tree has now become endangered?
What are the Plant Properties? Anti-bacterial, anti-infectious, antiviral, antifungal, stimulant and anti-parasitic.
What are the Documented Uses and Benefits of Rosewood Oil? Skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne, and dry and oily skin, elasticity, wrinkles), fungal infections (Candida, oral, vaginitis), depression, improves skin elasticity, wounds.
What is the Aromatic Affect on the Mind? Its sweet and woody aroma makes is grounding and relaxing.
What is the Spiritual Influence? This oil has interesting spiritual influences and that is why it is used in so many of the professionally made blends that I use for emotional release, trauma and encouragement.
It is said that Rosewood creates peace and security. But I believe it goes deeper than that. In Vibrational Healing, Deborah Eidson’s book, she says it “Opens the inner ear and Compassion”. When the inner ear opens, our creativity peaks and expands all the chakras in the body, but specifically the heart chakra. This is very powerful.
The heart chakra holds the emotions of grief, sadness and loss. This is why this oil has been associated with alleviating depression. And mixed with other oils can be very effective for releasing abusive memories whether from verbal, mental or physical abuse.

How do I use it?
Use NEAT (undiluted). Then,
• Apply several drops (2-4) on location
• Apply to chakras/vitaflex points
• Directly inhale
• Diffuse, or
• May be used as a dietary supplement.
Can this oil be used for Pets? Yes, ticks do not like the scent of this oil.
This oil is in many of the professionally made blends that I use for the horses. Most of those blends are for behavioral problems. It is also in a great ointment that I use called Animal Scents Ointment.
Note about Animal Use: Certain oils can be very toxic to cats. Pine and citrus products and oils in particular that are not of therapeutic grade! Please consult your vet if you are not sure about applying any essential oil to your pet.
What are the Safety Precautions? First, only use therapeutic grade essential oils when wanting healing results! Rosewood oil has no known contraindications. It is Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS).
Although it may be used as a dietary supplement, it is advised not to use it in this manner for children under 6 years of age.
Essential Oil Trivia?
Did you know that Rosewood can contain between 70-95% monoterpene alcohols? This group of alcohols is gentle and has aromas that are enjoyable. They have many therapeutic benefits as well! Other examples are Geranium and Lavender Essential Oils.
