Genmaicha Tea

Genmaicha Tea is the Japanese name used to describe green tea combined with roasted brown rice.

Originally this tea was used because the rice served as filler and reduced the price of the tea.

When the green sencha tea leaves are being dried, rice is added and as the kernel roast, some of the grains pop, resembling popcorn.

The Genmaicha tea has a unique appearance with small fluffy pieces of what looks like popcorn, brown kernels of rice, and green, pine needle like tea leaves.

Once steeped, this tea is light yellow in color and has a mild green tea flavor, with an aroma of roasted rice.

What is Genmaicha Tea? Genmaicha Tea is made up of green sencha tea leaves and whole grains of roasted brown rice. This tea comes in bulk or bags.

Genmaicha Tea Preparation:

The optimum water temperature for Genmaicha Tea is typically 80–85° C or 176–185° F.
◦Use 1 to 2 and a half teaspoons of tea leaves for every cup of water.
◦Steep the tea for 3-5 minutes, depending on strength desired.

Enjoy hot or chilled, with or without sweetener, or sweetener. It is sometimes used with green tea powder added.

The caffeine in green tea can cause insomnia, nervousness, or irritability. Liver toxicity has been associated with green tea.

It is important to note that Green tea can reduce the absorption of iron. If you take iron supplements, green tea should be taken either two hours before or four hours after taking an iron supplement.
