Tinnitus is a medical condition which is popularly known as “ringing in the ears” to us. The non-stopping and irritating “buzz” in the ears hampers normal life and is enough to drive someone insane. But there are several natural remedies that can bail you out that too without undergoing surgery or harmful medication.
What you need to understand is that tinnitus is caused by a number of things (damaged nerves, loud music, stress, diabetes etc), & it is up to you to correctly identify the root of the problem and work accordingly. However, some general methods can help to reduce the severity of the buzzing bouts.
Natural Ways to Cure Ear Ringing
The Right Nutrition
The food that you eat can help you battle tinnitus. Eat magnesium enriched foods like spinach, tuna, halibut, banana, beans and soy products. If your body has low magnesium level, the blood vessels tend to constrict, reducing the blood circulation in the brain. This causes tinnitus.
Magnesium supports the auditory senses and repairs damaged nerve ending. Another nutrient that must be taken is Vitamin B12 or folic acid. This nutrient aids in the manufacture of the myelin sheath which protects and repairs damaged nerve cells. Foods rich in folic acid are okra, collard, kale, spinach, carrots, beets, nuts and corn.
Herbs
Believe it or not herbs can help you overcome the ear ringing syndrome. The best herb for this purpose is Ginkgo biloba. The extracts from this herb contain flavonoids which serve as natural antioxidants.
It helps by improving blood circulation to the brain. You can also use rosemary especially if you have high blood pressure (high B.P can also trigger tinnitus). You can take the herb internally or use it in aromatherapy. Other herbs that you may use are black cohosh, Burdock and Golden seal.
Avoid Loud Noises
Research and extensive studies have concluded that loud music does not only cause tinnitus but also triggers and increases the severity of the condition. If you already have tinnitus, try to stay away from loud noises like loud music, loud traffic etc
Ear Plugs
If you love swimming or you’re visiting the beach it is essential that you carry ear plugs with you. The force of the water or the chlorine in the pool is known to irritate the auditory cells thereby triggering tinnitus.
Shun Caffeine
You may love coffee or caffeinated drinks but studies have shown that caffeine, hyper-stimulates the auditory follicles thereby causing the ringing in the ears.
Castor Oil
Using cator oil to treat tinnitus is a traditional approach but has proved beneficial to many. Pour 3 drops of castor oil in each ear with the help of a dropper and use ear plugs to plug the ears.Do this every night before going to bed.
Work It Out
Tinnitus may be caused poor body circulation. Devote at least ½ hour daily to some form of exercise to improve circulation. You can do gym exercises, yoga, brisk walking, jogging or skipping.
Acupuncture
Some studies have determined that the right acupuncture treatment can help you get rid off this problem. Always choose a licensed and professional acupuncturist for treatment. Acupunture can cure tinnitus by acting on the cochlea, releasing immune-modulatory chemicals to reduce inflammation and improve circulation. A basic acupuncture treatment may spread over 15 sessions. The acupuncture points that the therapist may start the therapy on are- ear points, scalp points, San Jao, Gallbladder 43 and Kidney 3 and 6.
