Natural Cures For Pink Eye

Added/Modified on December 31, 2016

The problem of pink eye is frequently known as “Conjunctivitis” and is caused by factors such as allergies, bacterial and viral infections, exposure to chemicals, parasites and so on. Symptoms of this problem include blurred vision, irritation, itching, redness, inflammation and pain.

It is interesting to note that pink eye may not result in any long term effect. However, this problem is contagious and can easily spread from one person to another. An individual suffering from this problem should not share his/her belongings with others. It is essential to maintain proper hygiene to prevent the infection and obtain quick relief.

Ice Pack

Placing an ice pack on the affected eye can provide relief from itching, redness and inflammation. It is important to note that this natural remedy may not cure the infection. Another option is to keep a cloth soaked in cold water on the eyes. This process should be performed 3 to 4 times in a day.

Honey

Honey can be used as an eye drop. An individual can mix honey with warm milk. Washing eyes with this mixture (with the use of a cotton ball) on a regular basis can provide effective results.

An eye compress prepared by soaking a clean cloth in this mixture can also be placed on the eyes to obtain the desired results. Honey (3 tablespoons) can also be mixed with warm water (2 cups). It is important to note that an individual should use this mixture only after it has cooled down.

Fennel

Fennel can also be used to treat the problem of pink eye. An individual can boil some fennel seeds in water. Washing eyes with this water (strained) after it has cooled down 2 to 3 times on a daily basis can help in reducing the pain, redness and inflammation.

Aloe Vera

Cotton balls soaked in fresh aloe vera juice can be directly placed on the infected eye. An individual can also wash his/her eyes with a solution made by mixing aloe vera juice (half teaspoon) and water. Boric acid (half teaspoon) can also be added to this solution.

Potato

Raw potato has disinfectant properties. Fresh potato slices can be placed on the affected eye for 3 to 4 consecutive nights before going to sleep to obtain quick relief from the infection.

Green Tea

Green tea has soothing properties. An individual can place cool and wet green tea bags on the affected eye to reduce the itching and swelling caused by the problem of pink eye.

Another option is to steep a bag of green tea in warm water and keep it on the infected eye for a period of 20 to 30 minutes. This natural remedy can be used multiple times on a daily basis.

Eyebright

Eyebright is anti-inflammatory and can be used to deal with the symptoms of pink eye. It is also known as “Euphrasia Officinalis”. Eye drops made with the use of eyebright can help in the treatment of various eye related problems. Eye cups containing eyebright tea (after it has cooled down) can be directly placed on the eyes.
