The problem of spider veins is medically known as “Telangiestasia” or “Sunburst Varicosities’’. It may result in itching, swelling, burning sensation, cramping or aching, fatigue and so on.

An individual may obtain relief from this problem with the use of herbs. Some of the commonly used herbal remedies are discussed below.

Gotu kola is an effective herb for spider veins. Application of gotu kola extract on the affected area can provide relief. Drinking a cup of tea made by steeping dried gotu kola (1 teaspoon) in water (1 cup) multiple times can provide the desired results. Gotu kola tincture (10 to 20 drops) can also be consumed 2 to 3 times in a day. It is essential to consult a doctor before using this herb.

Witch hazel is also known as ‘’Hamamelis Virginiana’’. Witch hazel has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. Application of witch hazel extract with the help of a cotton ball on the affected area can provide effective results.

A piece of cloth soaked in a solution made by mixing witch hazel extract in water can be directly applied on the affected area to treat the burning sensation.

Horse Chestnut

Horse chestnut is frequently referred to as ‘’Aesculus Hippocastanum’’. Horse chestnut contains aescin which can help in improving the strength of veins. It is interesting to note that bilberry can also be consumed in the form of a jam. People suffering from diabetes and blood clotting disorders should not use this herb.
